GAINSWave® For Him and For Her

GAINSWave® uses low-intensity sound waves to support blood flow in the tissue involved in sexual function. AgeWell offers GAINSWave® For Him and GAINSWave® For Her, and either one can be started on its own.

What GAINSWave® is

GAINSWave® is a non-invasive, non-hormonal therapy that uses low-intensity sound waves, known clinically as low-intensity shockwave therapy. It's designed to support local blood flow and tissue health. Sessions are short and done in the office, with no needles and no downtime. AgeWell is a licensed GAINSWave® provider.

GAINSWave® For Him

Changes in erectile quality are common in midlife, and they often come down to two physical factors: reduced blood flow and reduced sensitivity.

Acoustic wave therapy is thought to work on both: it's designed to support new blood vessel growth, nerve health, and nitric oxide release, which helps vessels relax and blood flow improve. It works on the tissue itself, and it can be used alongside medication.

Men without erectile dysfunction may still benefit, including those who notice occasional loss of firmness, difficulty maintaining an erection, fewer morning erections, or longer recovery between orgasms. A typical series is six sessions over 3 to 6 weeks, and some men return for occasional maintenance sessions.

GAINSWave® For Her

GAINSWave® For Her uses the same low-intensity sound waves on the external tissue involved in arousal and sensation. It's designed to support blood flow in that tissue, and women often ask about it when arousal, sensation, orgasm, or comfort has changed.

Because it's non-hormonal, it doesn't replace estrogen. It can be one part of a plan that also includes vaginal hormones, the O-Shot®, or hormone care. A typical series is six sessions over 3 to 6 weeks, and sessions are external, with no needles and no downtime.

Research on shockwave therapy for women is still growing, and your provider will talk through whether it fits your goals.

GAINSWave® For Recovery

The same technology is also used for joint discomfort and recovery in active adults. Learn more about GAINSWave® For Recovery.

How it fits your care at AgeWell

For sexual health, GAINSWave® is often combined with the P-Shot® or O-Shot®, and with hormone care when appropriate. Erectile and arousal changes can reflect blood flow, metabolic health, and hormones, so we look at those contributors too. Couples can come in together for one longer visit, and each partner leaves with their own plan.

Common questions

Do I need a Foundational Assessment?

No. GAINSWave® For Him, GAINSWave® For Her, and GAINSWave® For Recovery can all be started on their own. If you'd like the whole picture, your provider may also recommend a Foundational Assessment.

Is GAINSWave® For Her uncomfortable?

Most women find it comfortable. It's external, with no needles, and you can go back to your day right after.

How long do results last?

It varies. How long changes last depends on your overall health, including blood flow, metabolic health, and hormones, which is why we look at those too. Some patients return for occasional maintenance sessions.

Can it help Peyronie's disease?

Acoustic wave therapy, often with the P-Shot®, is used to support tissue health in Peyronie's disease. Your provider will talk through what's realistic for you.

Can my partner and I come in together?

Yes. Couples can come in together for one longer visit, and each partner leaves with their own plan.
